This blog was started to cover all the other aspects of entertainment media not already covered in my sister-blog, Player 1 Start!.
As a self-professed media junkie, I routinely take in unusual amounts of music, movies, and books. These, along with video games, are the things I love and this blog is the place for me to express that. Here you will find reviews and feature articles for everything not covered by Player 1 Start.
Though gaming is the only hobby of mine that gets its own dedicated blog, music is my first love. I own well over 1,000 albums, stretched across all manner of media from CDs to cassette tape to vinyl. I have a passion for listening to and collecting music, and my tastes are quite eclectic. I listen to a little bit of everything, save country, and I feel it is important to always keep an open mind when it comes to music. If you limit yourself to one specific genre, you're only depriving yourself of countless other great songs by other great bands, and with so much music out there I can't fathom who would want to do that. I am heavily into electronic music, but as a child of the 80s I am familiar with everything from pop, rock, r&b, rap, and every sub-genre in between. I generally try not to classify music, as most artists are too broad to paint with just one brush.
When it comes to film, my taste is just as open-minded. I love nerdy science fiction, and thought-provoking drama. I love horror and comedy. I think Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is one of the greatest films ever made, but I also think This Is Spinal Tap and Blade Runner are as well. I love all types of films, as long as they are well made. I am open to films that make you leave the theater contemplating their message, and films where you can walk into the theater, shut your brain off, and be entertained for 2 hours.
As far as books go, I have somewhat more specific tastes. I generally stick to horror and fantasy novels, for whatever reason, though I dabble in other genres from time to time. H.P. Lovecraft and J.R.R. Tolkien sit side-by-side on my bookshelf, along with Philip K. Dick and Lewis Carroll. I enjoy a good graphic novel such as Frank Miller's Sin City or V For Vendetta (incidentally, I love both of the film adaptations as well). I also have a thing for true crime, and I have a rather large collection of books dealing with the Jack the Ripper murders because I find it fascinating and terrifying at the same time. As a kid, I took an early shine to the DragonLance novels, high fantasy novels based on a popular pen-and-paper role-playing module under the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons umbrella. Most importantly, my collection of Michael Slade novels, whom I consider to be the greatest author I've ever read. His Special X thrillers, from HeadHunter to Kamikaze, are all the top of the heap when it comes to horrific cop-chases-killer novels.
As for myself, I am now 28-years-old and I reside in a suburb of the Metro Detroit area, in the same house I grew up in. I love to write, particularly about these subjects, and thus, this blog was born.
